Friends of the Earth - Brazilian Amazonia
Amigos da Terra - Amazônia Brasileira, founded in 1989, is a Public Interest Civil Society Organization, recognised by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice. It promotes public interests, such as human rights, public participation and development, by ascribing value to natural capital. It is active in public policies, markets, local communities and in the information world, through innovative activities. It has a priority focus, but not exclusive, on the Amazon region.
The organization is completely independent. It participates in international networks such as BankTrack - that follows the financial sector and its impacts on people and the planet - and BICECA at a South American scale, as well as maintains partnership agreements with member groups of the Friends of the Earth International network in several countries, without, however, any formal connection.
